Leadership in Training Train-the-Trainer Class for DPS Driver Trainers (Part I or Part II)

Part I.  This is a free class targeted at both new and experienced DPS driver trainers. Driver trainers throughout Arizona, whether or not their district is a Trust member, receive training in all aspects of school bus driver instruction, including classroom preparation, paperwork, key classroom topics, behind-the-wheel teaching techniques, and rules and regulations governing pupil transportation. This class was originally offered during the 2018-19 school year.

Part II. This is a free class targeted at both new and experienced transportation driver trainers that builds on the original 2018/19 curriculum. Driver trainers throughout Arizona, whether or not their district is a Trust member, will experience training in the following topics: transportation paperwork entities and processes, in-service guidelines and techniques, and an overview of the new Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). Additionally, an intensive hands-on special needs training that includes emergency evacuations and reasonable force will be offered, along with even more behind-the-wheel teaching techniques. You do not have to take these classes in order; you can participate in either of them independently.

These classes are being held at Blue Ridge School District in Show Low on Friday, November 8, 2019. Sign up for either of these driver trainer classes here.

100-Day Report Spreadsheet Class

Preparing transportation route and vehicle inventory reports is an essential and required part of school district transportation. These annual reports identify yearly ridership, and in turn, determine financial support from the state. Join Leadership in Training instructor Jason Nelson for this hands-on computer-based class that utilizes a template for data collection and analyzation. Participants must bring their laptop or electronic device, with excel (google documents won’t work), and will be given a USB drive to follow along with the class. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a notebook for notetaking and any route information that we can help with the information set up such as route data, student count data for the current school year, mileage cards and odometer readings from July 1st, and any other information that is used during data collection and 100-day reporting. We will spend time assisting participants in setting up databases so that the information is useable upon return to work.

The class is being held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at the Trust building in Phoenix, and is limited to 50 participants. To register, click here.
